Vacaville Unified School District

Vacaville Unified School District was one of CPM’s first clients, and remains a valued client today. While originally planning a $153 million construction and modernization bond, the district hired CPM to review all the budgets and schedules in order to present a credible capital outlay plan to the voters. Once the bond was passed, the district awarded CPM a contract to manage the entire program, including strategic planning, design phase project management, technology implementation, budget tracking, reporting to the citizens’ oversight committee, and the development of design standards for all major projects.

Four years into the program, when statewide escalation of construction costs threatened the viability of projects, CPM made the unprecedented decision to apply Lean Project Management principles to the planning and execution of the remaining 14 projects. It was a move that paid off. The projects completed have been the most successful in the history of Vacaville’s building program, with no claims, disputes, cost overruns, or missed completion deadlines in the face of significant challenges.
